New Year’s Eve has always been a time for looking back to the past, and more importantly, forward to the coming year. It’s a time to reflect on the changes we want (or need) to make and resolve to follow through on those changes. Did your New Year resolutions make our top ten list?
- Spend More Time with Family & Friends
- Get into better shape
- Start a Business
- Completely Quit Smoking
- Enjoy Life More/Be more Spontaneous
- Quit Drinking
- Get Out of Debt
- Learn Something New
- Help Others/Volunteer more
- Get Completely Organized
I think for my New years resolution this year I am going to choose one main thing and everything else I would want should fall into place. I just recently bought Dave Ramsey’s book Complete guide to Money. So my goal (or resolution) for 2014 is #7 on the list above, get out of debt. I want to take it one step further and say I want to be completely debt free by June 2014!!! For me that is huge. I have never really been good at saving cash, or not using my credit cards minimally. Not to mention I just bought a car a few years back and didn’t have too much to put down on it. Now don’t get me wrong I am not in huge debt. I just think personally I want to be at peace with my finances. I want to pay off my school loans, car loan and my 3 credit cards, so that I don’t feel stuck having to pay those things monthly instead of saving for something I truly would enjoy paying for!
My resolution has been something I have wanted for a long time so it was fairly easy for me to decide what I wanted. Are you thinking, I have come up with resolutions every year but this year I just don’t know what I want to change in my life? Well then ask yourself these important questions:
- What would make you happier?
- What concrete action would bring change to your life?
- Are you a ‘yes’ resolver or a ‘no’ resolver?
- Are you biting off more than you can chew, or are you starting small enough?
- How will you be able to hold yourself accountable?
Have you found any strategies or questions that have helped you successfully keep resolutions in the past? What resolutions did you make?
